Air Temperatures and Sunshine

The island averages between 300 and 340 sunny days every year, meaning cloudy or overcast skies are rare.

June – August: Skies are completely clear with average daytime temperatures between 31°C and 34°C. Coastal areas stay more comfortable due to steady sea breezes.

April, May, September, October: Perfect for active exploration and physical recreation, these transitional brackets bring clear, warm days averaging a flawless 23°C to 30°C.

November – March:Freezing weather and coastal frosts do not occur. Days are mild and feel like spring, averaging 17°C to 19°C, while nights drop to around 9°C to 11°C.

Rain and Visibility

Rainfall is very low across the island, ensuring high visibility and clear horizons for most of the calendar year.

Summer Months: The chance of rain from June to August is virtually 0%, allowing for completely uninterrupted outdoor activities.

Winter Months: Most of the annual rain falls during December and January. It occurs in brief, heavy showers rather than weeks of grey skies, and the weather clears up quickly.

Sea Temperatures

The eastern Mediterranean basin stays warm for most of the year, providing a swimming season that easily lasts seven to eight months.

Summer & Autumn: Sea temperatures cross 25°C in June and peak at 28°C in August. The water retains this heat through September and October, keeping the sea warm even as the autumn air cools down.

Winter: At its coldest point in February, the sea temperature stays around 16.5°C to 17°C. While too cold for casual swimming, these warm waters help keep the coastal air mild.

Marine Clarity and Local Coastal Fauna

The coastal waters flanking Northern Cyprus are renowned for absolute clarity and structural purity. Free from heavy industrial shipping lanes, the sea offers exceptional underwater visibility often exceeding 30 meters, making the region a prime destination for deep-sea diving, snorkeling, and marine photography.

This unblemished environment hosts a delicate, federally protected marine ecosystem. The soft, golden sands of Alagadi, Akdeniz, and the untouched Karpaz Peninsula serve as vital annual nesting grounds for endangered Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) and Green Sea Turtles. Between June and September, these turtles lay their eggs on the shore, and the hatchlings make their way to the clean waters.
